An Ekologjia technician treating an apartment window from outside where stink bugs have gathered

In season now · September – November

Stink bugs are looking for shelter.

Every autumn the brown marmorated stink bug (Halyomorpha halys) covers windows and facades across Kosovo, looking for a warm place to spend the winter. They don’t breed indoors or damage the house, but they come in by the hundreds and release a strong smell when crushed.

  1. Don’t crush them

The smell is instant. Vacuum them up and empty the bag outside.

  2. Seal the way in

Gaps around windows, shutters, pipes and chimneys are how they get in. Window screens help a lot.

  3. Treat from outside

We treat facades, windows and shutters before they get in, and show you where they enter.

How the contract works

  1. Bait stations outside

Locked, numbered stations along the outside walls stop rodents before they get in.

  2. Monitoring points inside

Monitoring traps in the kitchen, storeroom and near entrances, for insects and rodents.

  3. Regular visits

We check every point as agreed in the contract and treat wherever there is activity.

  4. Documentation

A monitoring plan and a record of every visit, in line with HACCP requirements, ready for inspection.

Questions we hear a lot

What people usually ask before a treatment. For anything else, just call us.

Gloved hands sealing the gap around a pipe under a kitchen sink
Do I need to leave the house during treatment?

For most insect treatments, yes, for a few hours. Before we start we tell you exactly how long to stay out and when you can come back, because it depends on the product and the space.

Are the products safe for children and pets?

We use licensed products and apply them in a targeted way, away from food and from places where children and pets spend time. Tell us beforehand about small children, pets, aquariums or anyone with allergies, so we can adapt the treatment.

How do I prepare before you come?

Put away or seal food and dishes, clear corners and the space behind appliances, take pets out and cover aquariums. For bed bugs we give you separate instructions for bedding and clothes.

Is one treatment enough?

It depends on the pest. Cockroaches and bed bugs usually need a follow-up visit, because eggs hatch later. We tell you upfront if it is needed.

How much does it cost?

The price depends on the pest, the size of the space and the number of visits. Tell us what you have seen and where, and we give you a quote before we start.

When do you work?

Monday to Saturday, 8:00–16:00. Call us or send a WhatsApp message and we book the first free slot.

Do you work with businesses?

Yes. For restaurants, food producers, factories and institutions we offer scheduled contracts, monitoring points and documentation in line with HACCP requirements.

Do you work outside Ferizaj?

Yes, across all of Kosovo.

Rats

Rattus norvegicus · Mus musculus

Rodents breed fast: a single female can have several litters a year, with up to ten young each time. A young mouse fits through a gap the width of a pencil.

Active
At night
Season
All year, more in autumn and winter
Risk
High

Signs

  • Small dark droppings near food and along walls
  • Gnawed packaging, wood and cables
  • Scratching and noises at night in the ceiling or inside walls

Where they hide

Basements, storerooms and attics, behind walls and appliances: anywhere with food and shelter.

Why it matters

They contaminate food and can carry diseases such as leptospirosis and salmonella. Gnawed cables can start fires.

What you can do

  1. Seal cracks and holes around pipes, cables and doors
  2. Keep food, pet food included, in closed containers
  3. Don’t leave bins open or food out overnight

We remove them completely.

We don’t stop until the problem is solved for good. You call us, we take care of the rest.

Cockroaches

Blattella germanica · Blatta orientalis

A female German cockroach carries a capsule of 30 to 40 eggs. If you see one in daylight, there are usually many more hiding.

Active
At night
Season
All year
Risk
High

Signs

  • Black specks like ground pepper near appliances and in drawers
  • Brown egg capsules and shed skins
  • A heavy, musty smell in closed spaces

Where they hide

Behind the fridge and cooker, under the sink, inside appliances and in every warm crack near pipes.

Why it matters

They spread bacteria such as salmonella and E. coli onto food and dishes, and their residue can worsen asthma and allergies, especially in children.

What you can do

  1. Don’t leave dirty dishes and crumbs overnight
  2. Fix water leaks: without water they don’t survive long
  3. Seal gaps around pipes, sockets and tiles

We remove them completely.

We don’t stop until the problem is solved for good. You call us, we take care of the rest.

Ants

Lasius niger · Monomorium pharaonis

The ants you see are only the workers. The nest and the queen stay hidden, which is why the trails come back every time you wipe them away.

Active
Day and night
Season
Spring – autumn
Risk
Medium

Signs

  • Trails of ants heading to food or water
  • Small piles of soil or dust near tiles and walls
  • Winged ants indoors in spring

Where they hide

Under tiles, in cracks in walls and floors, behind frames and in the yard next to the foundations.

Why it matters

They contaminate food and colonies grow fast. Some species nest inside walls and insulation.

What you can do

  1. Clean up sugar, honey and crumbs straight away
  2. Keep sweets and pet food in airtight containers
  3. Wipe trails with soapy water to erase their scent path

We remove them completely.

Bed bugs

Cimex lectularius

An adult bed bug is the size of an apple seed and can live for months without feeding. It has nothing to do with cleanliness: they arrive in luggage, clothes and furniture.

Active
At night
Season
All year
Risk
High

Signs

  • Red bites in a line or cluster on the skin
  • Small brown or black spots on sheets and the mattress
  • Shed skins and a sweet, musty smell

Where they hide

In mattress seams, the bed frame and headboard, sockets, behind pictures and in cracks in furniture.

Why it matters

The bites itch and ruin sleep. They spread quickly from room to room and from flat to flat.

What you can do

  1. Check the bed and your luggage when you travel
  2. Wash travel clothes on a hot cycle as soon as you get home
  3. Don’t bring in second-hand mattresses or furniture without checking them

We remove them completely.

Stink bugs

Halyomorpha halys

The brown marmorated stink bug comes from East Asia and has spread across the Balkans. In autumn it looks for warmth and gets into homes by the hundred to spend the winter.

Active
Warm days
Season
September – November
Risk
Low

Signs

  • Brown bugs on glass and frames on sunny days
  • A strong smell when touched or crushed
  • Clusters behind shutters and in the attic

Where they hide

Around window frames, behind shutters, in cracks in the façade and in the attic.

Why it matters

They don’t bite and aren’t poisonous, but the smell is strong and lingers on walls and fabric. In the garden they damage fruit and vegetables.

What you can do

  1. Seal gaps in window frames and shutter boxes
  2. Fit window screens before September
  3. Don’t crush them: the smell stays on walls and fabric

We remove them completely.

A large spider, close up
File 06 / 08

Spiders

Eratigena atrica · Pholcus phalangioides

Most spiders in the home are harmless to people. But lots of spiders usually means lots of other insects for them to feed on.

Active
At night
Season
All year, most visible in autumn
Risk
Low

Signs

  • Webs in corners, on ceilings and behind furniture
  • Small egg sacs in the webs
  • Large spiders moving around in the evening, especially in autumn

Where they hide

High corners, basements, garages, under the eaves and around outdoor lights.

Why it matters

Webs and insect remains make a space look neglected, and in sensitive people a bite can cause redness.

What you can do

  1. Clear corners and webs regularly
  2. Don’t leave clutter and boxes in the basement or garage
  3. Cut back outdoor lights that attract insects

We remove them completely.

We don’t stop until the problem is solved for good. You call us, we take care of the rest.

A wasp on a wooden window sill under a beam of light
File 07 / 08

Wasps

Vespa crabro · Vespula vulgaris

Unlike a bee, a wasp can sting again and again. A nest grows all summer, and by the end it can hold hundreds or even thousands of wasps.

Active
By day
Season
May – September
Risk
High

Signs

  • Wasps flying in and out of the same spot
  • Paper nests under the eaves, in the attic or in a shutter box
  • A scratching sound inside a wall or ceiling

Where they hide

Under the eaves, in the roof and attic, in shutter boxes, in trees and sometimes in the ground.

Why it matters

They defend the nest aggressively. For people with allergies a sting can be dangerous and needs medical help right away.

What you can do

  1. Don’t try to remove or block a nest yourself
  2. Cover sweet drinks and food when you’re outdoors
  3. Check the eaves in spring, while nests are still small

We remove them completely.

We don’t stop until the problem is solved for good. You call us, we take care of the rest.

A mosquito next to a drop of water, under a beam of light
File 08 / 08

Mosquitoes

Culex pipiens · Aedes sp.

Only females bite. In warm weather it takes about a week to go from egg to adult mosquito, in any container of standing water.

Active
Evening and night
Season
May – October
Risk
Medium

Signs

  • Bites in the morning, especially on arms and legs
  • A thin whine near your ear at night
  • Wriggling larvae in standing water

Where they hide

Near standing water: flower pots, buckets, tyres, blocked gutters and damp basements.

Why it matters

The bites itch and ruin sleep, and mosquitoes can carry diseases such as West Nile virus.

What you can do

  1. Empty containers of water in the yard and on the balcony every week
  2. Clear gutters and cover water barrels
  3. Fit screens on windows and doors

We remove them completely.
